Description
Two weeks ago I was on YouTube and saw a notification of a new Bankless episode regarding Base. After months of very little personal activity onchain, I decided to tune in and hear what Jesse had to say. I didn't understand why a big company like Coinbase would go through the trouble of creating something as big and difficult to manage as a public blockchain. I heard his vision for scaling Ethereum, making it accessible, affordable and easier to navigate for everyone. I was inspired!
Like many of us during covid, NFTs introduced me to what it means to be onchain. They captured a child-like sense of collecting, discovery and curiosity. While later to the fun, I distinctly remember the first day I saw a CryptoPunk and how much I admired its simplicity while each maintained their own distinct sense of identity. It was only later that I was able to understand the technical and cultural importance of what Matt and John created. The more I looked at CryptoPunks, the more I saw a semblance of each pixel to a LEGO.
A lightbulb went on. I took a CryptoPunk and overlaid it with a grid and couldn’t believe what I found. Each CryptoPunk consists of 24x24 pixels. If you translate that to LEGO, you’re able to perfectly recreate a CryptoPunk on a standard LEGO baseplate with 576 LEGO blocks.
I started creating BlockPunks and had the fortune to commission pieces for amazing leaders in the crypto community like @punk6529, @fvckrender, @cryptonovo311, and more. These early believers inspired me to continue my journey. When the markets turned and the madness happened, my bricks went dusty, until I saw Jesse speak…
Sometimes life feels like a simulation due to the extraordinary coincidences that we come across:
CryptoPunks fit perfectly into a 24x24 LEGO Baseplate
Base was introduced to the world with a simple emoji 🔵
Base launched Onchain Summer with a variation of that emoji 🟡
Each LEGO that I use features four circles on top of it
Jesse’s CryptoPunk 8566 predominantly features 🔵 🟡
This edition of 2,304 represents each circle on the 574 LEGOs used to create a physical version of Jesse’s CryptoPunk 8566. The physical BlockPunk is my gift to Jesse and the Base team for the hard work that they are doing.
Thank you,
