Description
AmbrosiaQuark is a digital painting created entirely in Procreate over 97.5 hours by JeffJag in May/June 2024
The title is a reference to a type of elementary particles known as quarks which combine to form hadrons (protons and neutrons). Quarks have a couple boring 'flavors' (up, down, top, and bottom) but they have two very fun flavors: Strange Quarks and Charm Quarks.
As an artist who's highly inspired by the cutting edge of quantum physics, I imagined what a new kind of quark might be called. The word Ambrosia felt appropriate because I imagine the fictional food/drink of the Gods that imbues eternal life to whoever consumes it - as a bright orange drink.
The digital painting was created over many days - the time adds up to 97.5 hours spent. I love working in Procreate on my iPad Pro because I take it with me to all my kids' after school events and activities and work on it while they're busy. I like being able to sit comfortably on the couch in the living room and involve my kids in the color choices or other painting decisions. There are pieces all over the work I can point to that hold special meaning to me - tied to memories of my kids as I worked on this piece.
The file is also quite large and detailed. It's intended to be printed large or to be shown on large screens to give the viewer the ability to view the details up close and to indulge in repeat viewings. AmbrosiaQuark fits in quite nicely with the other large digital paintings I've created in my life.
